Adobe Acrobat DC is a lightweight, full-featured application for iOS, macOS, and Windows. The latest version has been available since February 28, 2018. It can be installed on iOS devices by jailbreaking their device via evasi0n tool or exploiting the file system permissions when installing Adobe apps like any other software when cracking the passcode. Aside from official releases, it's also found in pirated editions that are downloaded through portals like Pirate Bay or because of third party repositories that host commonly hacked programs. The name "Acrobat" comes from its ability to create and manipulate files in Portable Document Format (PDF) format, often used in publishing. The program is also used to convert PDF files into editable text-based documents, known as soft-proofing. Because of its numerous features, Acrobat is criticized for its steep learning curve and the need to obtain additional tools. Like many Adobe programs, it can be installed on multiple operating systems at once. Like most other Adobe products, the latest version was released with bugs present in earlier releases. The product was created by former Apple engineers after Apple had discontinued Rosetta with macOS 10.5 (Leopard). Originally sold by Adobe Systems Incorporated under their Creative Suite line of software, they formed two new divisions: one for hardware and another for software development. Adobe Acrobat DC was formerly named Adobe Reader X. The main competitors of Acrobat are Apple's Preview (only available on macOS) and Microsoft's competing product, Adobe Reader. Although the two products are capable of reading PDF files, they lack many of Acrobat's features, such as commenting and forms support. They also fall short of the full feature set available in more expensive versions of Adobe Acrobat. Acrobat has traditionally been compared to other PDF editing software, such as Nitro PDF Professional, Foxit PhantomPDF or PDFCreator (Windows). Acrobat is the name for several programs used for interacting with Portable Document Format (PDF) files. The PDFA is used to display PDF documents, while the Action Message Format (AMF) is used to generate interactive forms in PDF documents. Adobe Reader is based on version 1 of the Action Message Format, which contains some limitations that were removed in version 2 of this specification. The PDF file format itself and its features were publicly specified and published by Adobe Systems, Inc. in a standard called Portable Document Format (PDF).
